Rowes Family History
This ancient Anglo-Scottish surname has at least four origins. Firstly if found in southern Scotland, it is often from a Yorkshire family called Ros, Ross or Rosse, who purchased large estates in Ayrshire in the 12th century. These people were of Norman-French origins, who came over to England with Duke William of Normandy, better known in history as William,The Conqueror, in 1066. They originated from the village of 'Rots' near Caen, in Normandy. Secondly the name may be English but of Welsh (Olde English), origins, from any of the various places called Ross in Herefordshire, Northumberland, or the region of Ross in Northern Scotland, Roos in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and Roose in the county of Lancashire...

Our great grandmfather Robert Ross left Ireland arriving in Canada between his birth 1800 and his marriage 1831. He / They settled in a small quebec community called St Dunstan / Lac Beauport as shown on his marriage church record entry to Jane McCotter. The moved from Quebec to Chatsworth Ontario Canada then to Toronto where they settled.I remember as a very young lad having profound but confused feeling of our ancestry and have always thought I would one day like to search of our history. I have no images, stories, recollections or closet skeletons save for one Canadian 1861 Census indicating Robert was born in Ireland and Ancestry DNA results.
?My Ancestry DNA indicates I have matches in Portrush, Limavady, Coleraine, Larne, Lisburn, Dublin, Wicklow, and in a place 3 km West of Eyrecourt left off R356 1.18 km .... hahaha. So... whoever it may be possibly lives in one of the three farms on the corner. I would love to hear from any Ross or (O'Doherty families. Roberts sister Margaret married a Thomas O'Doherty) relatives.
