Crawford Family History
This famous Scottish surname, found as Crawford, Crawfurd and Crauford, is locational in origin, from the old Barony of Crawford in the Upper ward of Lanarkshire, and is one of the earliest recorded Scottish surnames (see below). The placename is of Anglo-Saxon origin, meaning "crow's ford", derived from the Olde English pre 7th Century nickname "crawa", from "crawa", crow, with "ford", ford; there are places in the English counties of Dorsetshire and Lancashire which have the same name and meaning. Sir Reginald de Crauford was sheriff of Ayr during the region of William the Lion, King of Scotland 1165 - 1214, and one Roger de Crawford witnessed Eustace de Balliol's charter to Holyrood in 1262...Select Audience

Sarah Crawford wife of John Jackson McAlister both born in Meade co , Antrim Ireland. circa 1760. They are my 7th generation grandparents. I cannot find records on either of them before they came to over to America. I know the most of the history of my McAlister side, but I am just getting into researching Sarah Crawfordโs story. I would be much obliged if anyone recognizes her name and responds to this post. Thank you

I don't know if any are famous. My Crawford's are;
James Crawford, about 1742 who married Sarah Pinkerton, their son John (1826-1903) married Rachel Wylie.
Their son James D. (1859-1909) Married Jane Ellen Crawford (1866-1942). Their daughter Janet W. married my Grandfather, Ivor Stanley Williams from Wales. Jane Ellen was a Crawford as well....via John Crawford (1834-?) and Magdalene Philip, both of Scotland I believe.

I'm searching for the family of Alexander Crawford in Belfast. Alexander was born about 1818 and lived in Northern Ireland until the 1850's. He immigrated to the US with the children.
His wife was Eliza, they had children named Eliza (born about 1844); Thomas (born about 1846), Mary Ann (born about 1850) and John (born about 1852).
His wife Eliza immigrated to the US (Iowa) in approximately 1887.

(Part 1 of 3) The Crawford name is from Scotland, but its origin according to DNA is from the north-west coast of the Emerald Island. The Crawford story [dominated by DNA tribal marker R1b-L513, Subgroup A1] can trace their origins to the Finn Valley in Donegal, Ireland from 50 BCE. Perhaps the journey begins with the Clanna Dedad; Deda, son of Sen or Deda Mac Sin. The Crawford surname origin is from a Northern Ui Neill [R1b-L513] tribe. The Cenรฉl Eoghan and the tribes of Donegal conquered much of Ulster (Derry and Tyrone).

(Part 2 of 3) Cenรฉl Eoghan will expand across northern Ireland with their cousins Cenรฉl Conaill and the Northern Ui Neill between 500-800 BCE. The clans of Finn Valley have the same DNA as people from Gwened in Brittany. But how could this be? Recent discoveries from DNA testing are unlocking the migration patterns of Celtic tribes as late as 800 CE to 1200 CE. The Crawford story begins in pre-history Ireland then moves to Scotland as they form part of the Dalriada. Descendants of their tribe will then travel to Brittany, France during the Dark Ages.

(Part 3 of 3) Discover their newly found untold story and how forgotten texts bring their story back to life. From the ebook, โThe Tribe Withinโ learn how DNA unfolds this amazing tale and if you look in the right places, how history narrates this evidence. There is another written account of their story, but it is camouflaged in smoke and myth โ it will become the tales of King Arthur.
