Douglas Family History
This noble and distinguished surname is of Scottish territorial origin from the lands of Douglas, south of Glasgow, in Lanarkshire, situated on the Douglas Water. These waters were so named from the Old Gaelic "dubh", dark or black, plus "glas", a rivulet or stream. The original stronghold of the Douglas family and their retainers lay in this area, and the Douglases were described by the historian Lang as "the great, turbulent, daring, and too often treacherous house". The fair principal stems of the family are: the old Douglas of Douglasdale (the Black Douglas), illustrious in the War of Independence: the line of Morton who were closely connected with Mary Queen of Scots: the house of Drumlanrig and Queensberry, and the House of Angus, the Red Douglas...Select Audience

Karen Parrow
Hello, my name is Karen. My maiden name us Douglas and I was born in Glasgow, spent my childhood living beside Loch Awe in Argyll. I lived in Ireland from 2009 - 2021 and now I'm in Huntsville Alabama!!
Douglas
I am looking for George Douglas who was born some time around 1811 and who married Ann North. They emigrated to Canada 1849-1851. They brought with them several children's: George, Samuel Marlborough, Eliza, Martha, and Thomas. In Canada they settled first in The town of Perth in Lanark County, then Newboro in Leeds County, then Harriston, Ontario and finally Ingersoll in Oxford County. They were not Catholic, mostly Church of Ireland although Geroge claimed to be Methodist on one Canadian census. My father recalls his grandfather claiming they came from south of Dublin putting them in Wicklow or Wexford.
